  ________________________________________________________________________ http://www.union-ic.com rev.04 dec.2013 1/15 um809/810 3-pin microprocessor reset circuits um809/810 sc70-3/s ot23-3 general description the um809/810 series are ultra low current, cost eff ective system supervisory circuits designed to monitor the power supplies in digital systems. they provide a reset signal to the host processor when necessary, offer excellent ci rcuit reliability & low cost by eliminating external component and adjustment when used with +5v, +3.3v, +3.0v or other voltage powered circuits. the reset output is driven active within 10 s of power supply falling through the reset voltage threshold. reset is keeping active for a minimu m of 140ms after system power supply has risen above the reset threshold. reset threshold suitabl e for operation with variety of supply voltage are available. um809 has an active-low reset output while um810 has an active-high reset output. the um809 / 810 are optimized to reject fast transient glitc hes on the power supply line, and the reset output are guaranteed to be in the correct logic state for power supply v cc down to 1v. each of these ics consists of a voltage reference comparator, resistors for detector threshold setting, delay generator, output driver & hyster esis circuit. the reset threshold & time delay are fixed with high accuracy internally and does not require any external adjustment. low supply current of 3 a (v cc =3v) makes um809/810 ideal for low power application. both devices are available in 3 pin sc70 or sot23 packages. applications features ? cpu and logic circuit reset ? power fail detector ? computers ? embedded system ? battery powered equipment ? intelligent instrument ? wide operation voltage range of 1v to 10v ? typical quiescent current of 3 a ? no external components ? 3-pin small sc70 and sot23 packages ? v cc transient immunity ? correct logic output guaranteed to v cc =1.0v ? precision v cc monitor for 2.5v, 3.0v, 3.3v, and 5.0v supplies ? available in 2 output configurations push-pull low active reset output(um809) push-pull high active reset output(um810) ? wide operation temperature: -40 to 105 pin configurations top view top view top view um809/810 m: monthly code sc70-3/sot23-3

________________________________________________________________________ http://www.union-ic.com rev.04 dec.2013 7/15 um809/810 detailed description a microprocessor?s (p?s) reset input starts the p in a known state. the um809/810 assert reset to prevent code-execution errors during power- up, power-down, or brownout conditions. they assert a reset signal whenever the v cc supply voltage declines below a preset threshold, keeping it asserted for at least 140ms after v cc has risen above the reset threshold. the um809/810 have a push-pull output stage. applications information v cc transient rejection in addition to issuing a reset to the p dur ing power-up, power-down, and brownout conditions, the um809/810 are relatively immune to short-duration negative-going v cc transients (glitches). figure 7 shows typical transient duration vs. reset comparator overdrive, for which the um809/810 do not generate a reset pulse. the gr aph was generated using a negative-going pulse applied to v cc , starting 0.5v above the actual reset threshold and ending below it by the magnitude indicated (reset comparator overdrive). the graph indicates the maximum pulse width a negative-going v cc transient can have without causing a reset pulse. as the magnitude of the transient increases (goes farther below the reset threshold), the maximum allowable pulse width decreases. typically, for the um8_l and um8_m, a v cc transient that goes 100mv below the reset threshold and lasts 20s or less will not cause a reset pulse. a 0.1f bypass capacitor mounted as close as possible to the v cc pin provides additional transient immunity. figure 7. maximum transient duration vs overdrive for glitch rejection at 25 output signal integrity during power down when v cc falls below 1v, the um809 reset _____________ output no longer sinks current?it becomes an open circuit. therefore, high-impedance cmos logic inputs connected to reset _____________ can drift to undetermined voltages. this presents no problem in most applications since most p and other circuitry is inoperative with v cc below 1v. however, in applications where reset _____________ must be valid down to 0v, adding a pull-down resistor to reset _____________ causes any stray leakage currents to
________________________________________________________________________ http://www.union-ic.com rev.04 dec.2013 8/15 um809/810 flow to ground, holding reset _____________ low (figure 8). r1?s value is not critical; 100k ? is large enough not to load reset _____________ and small enough to pull reset _____________ to ground. a 100k ? pull-up resistor to v cc is also recommended for the um810 if reset is required to remain valid for v cc < 1v. figure 8. reset _____________ valid to v cc = ground circuit interfacing to ps with bidirectional reset pins some p?s (such as motorola 68hc11) have bi -directional reset pins. depending on the current drive capability of the processor pin, an indetermin ate logic level may result in series with the output of the um809 (figure 9). if there are other components in the system which requires a reset signal, they should be buffered so as not to load the reset line. if the other components are required to follow the reset i/o of the p, the buffer should be connected as shown with the solid line. figure 9. interfacing to bi directional reset i/o benefits of highly accurate reset threshold most p supervisor circuits ha ve reset threshold voltages betwee n 5% and 10% below the value of nominal supply voltages. this ensures a reset will not occur within 5% of the nominal supply, but will occur when the supply is 10% below nominal. when using ics rated at only the nominal supply 5%, this leaves a zone of uncertainty where the supply is between 5% and 10% low, and where the reset may or may not be asserted. the um8_ l/t/z use highly accurate circuitry to ensure that reset is asserted close to the 5% limit, and long before the supply has declined to 10% below nominal.
